My Austin Restaurant Picks During the Pandemic

Updated: Apr 13, 2020

I have rounded up a few of my favorite local restaurants in Austin that are open! I have had an incredibly positive experience at all of the places I am mentioning in this post.

I love all of these places and want nothing more than to see them succeed! All of these places are available for curbside pick up or non contact delivery in the Austin area.

Need a reason to support local businesses? This is the time to shine and give them the support they need to make it through this trying time.

Taco Shack

Taco Shack has been one of my Austin Favorites since I was little! We always started our weekends off with some of their famous breakfast tacos! There is nothing like a classic breakfast taco with homestyle salsa to kick off your weekend! I have been enjoying my tacos on my patio (weather permitting) with my morning coffee. This is a fantastic way for me to kick start my day and support one of my favorite Austin original businesses. They are available for delivery through the Favor app or have a drive through at their North Lamar location. Go visit Taco Shack for a classic and delicious take on breakfast tacos or for their equally delicious classic lunch menu!

Gusto

Gusto is your source for a classic and tasty Italian meal. Right now they are offering what was one of my Sunday special favorites as a regular menu item. Go and get yourself some of their spinach and cheese lasagna for a good midweek pick me up or a way to start your week with some comfort food. They currently have options to order for yourself as an individual or family style! I did this last week and had plenty of lasagna to freeze for the weeks to come. All of the staff is incredibly friendly and will either bring your food out to you curbside or you can have it delivered. Do yourself a favor and get yourself some of their delicious lasagna!

Chuys

You can't go wrong with this Austin original! They have been incredibly kind and helpful even as they were racing to make sure everyone's orders were fulfilled. We even got our favorite Chuys meals on their condensed menu! The Boom Boom enchiladas are a favorite among the Muir Family. There is nothing that makes quarantine a little bit more bearable than to-go margaritas! Why not make your meal a little bit better than it was by including a marg to-go with some of their chips, queso, guac, salsa and jalapeño ranch! If you are looking for a good way to get dinner quickly and efficiently, Chuys should be your go to! They deliver via door dash or offer curbside pick up.

Shoal Creek Saloon

If you are anything like me, you are missing crawfish season with all of the fun and delicious food it brings! I can honestly say this has been one of the most difficult parts of quarantine for me. I am very much a people person and truly value the time we get to spend with our friends and family during this season. Shoal Creek Saloon has given me a little bit of this back! They are offering boiled crawfish every day for curbside pick up alongside their regular menu! They even offer drinks to-go! I cannot wait to be able to go back to this Austin gem and socialize with my people over some of the best cajun food in the Austin area!

Haru Sushi and Japanese Cuisine

This is a restaurant we happened to stumble upon through a family friend who frequently visits Austin and stays up in the north Austin area. They have incredibly fresh sushi if you are needing a fix. The best part about them is that they were incredibly quick and willing to bring everything out to the car. I am a big fan of their Haru Specific rolls as they have some really tasty ones with a kick to them! Do yourself a favor and order for a nice date night in or just a nice meal for the family.

Azul Tequila

Azul Tequila is a hidden gem behind the Exxon gas station on 2222 and Dry Creek Drive. They have the best queso flameado. Not to mention their extensive enchilada menu, but they have several options to choose from including mole my favorite! They also are offering margaritas to-go with a food order. I have been enjoying their queso, guac and one of their delicious frozen margaritas! If you are needing a good tex-mex fix and a delicious margarita to pair with, visit Azul Tequila. You won't be disappointed.

Fujiyama

If you are wanting a Benihana meal only 1000 times better, visit Fujiyama. Their menu offers many combinations of proteins, a choice of steamed or fried rice and the selection of soup or a salad. I will be entirely honest, I order the same thing every single time I go because it is so darn good I could never be bored of it or even think about changing perfection. This is a family favorite because of their menu, service and the owners. They are always so kind and make sure anyone that walks in is treated like royalty. If you have not been, go. If not now, go when the pandemic is over. This is my FAVORITE restaurant and I continuously go here for any celebration that warrants a trip. I am also guilty of visiting just because their food is so good. Go visit and get yourself a meal and another one as their portions are more than enough for one and maybe even two people.

Perrys

I am a sucker for a good steak being a Texan through and through. Actually, I don't even think it is a Texan thing. I love having the ability to select my cut and of course the temperature of my steak. Perrys allows you to have their 5 star food at a discounted price because their dining room is not currently open. They have lunch specials, dinner specials and even specials for upcoming occasions. I can honestly say, this is a great mid-week pick me up meal that I can be positive it will be exactly as I expected. Do yourself a favor and enjoy!

All of these places are some of my favorites. I wish I had the time to write out every single place I love and want to make it through. Unfortunately, unless we make an effort to support our local businesses in this time of chaos and unknown, we may not have them to support when this all blows over. I have been doing what I can to shop local and support local businesses as much as possible and I urge you to do so as well. Thank you for reading and I hope you find some fun new places to visit/ order from!
