Hi!
My name is Alyssa! Thank you so much for taking the time to read this post. This is truly a great gift for me right now to be able to share and connect with all of you in this crazy time. I know a lot of you are probably having a difficult time with all of this as am I and I want to be able to help you and your loved ones stay entertained! Keep your chin up and keep on keeping!
Why?
My primary reason for starting this blog is to serve the community by raising awareness of all local businesses that are currently fighting through the chaos. I believe if we can all come together and support our local businesses right now, we can prevent the loss of jobs and help the local businesses get through this so we can enjoy them again when all of this blows over.
I urge you to shop local, support local and remain mindful of everyone right now. You don't know who is suffering silently or is struggling behind closed doors. Everyone reacts to things differently and deserves the benefit of the doubt. It saddens me to see people who once were close friends drift apart because of differing beliefs and strong opinions. This is not something that is strictly happening now, but is something unfortunately, we see anytime our world experiences large amounts of change. We can make it through this as strong Austinites united in a general cause to spread kindness (virtually of course!), live peacefully and love deeply. If you are wanting to check in on someone, chances are they could use it! Go forth and spread joy! (soapbox moment over)
About Me!
I was born and raised in Austin, Texas several years ago. No, I will not disclose the year! I have a deep love for this city and have seen it evolve over the years. Austin is rich in culture, kindness and innovation! As a child, I frequently visited my grandparents who lived downtown near St. Edwards University where my Grandfather was a History Professor. I was fortunate enough to be immersed in the city at a young age because of this. I frequented local parks such as little stacy, zilker, the botanical gardens and mayfield which only deepened my love for the city. In addition to being around St. Edwards, I was also raised partially by our extended tailgate family (by default) at DKR and LBJ Library. This also gave me a slightly skewed perception of what Collegiate football is supposed to be like everywhere. This is another one of my favorite Austin pastimes! Although I did not attend The University of Texas at Austin, my blood does still run burnt orange. UT definitely holds a special place in my heart, as my parents took me to my very first UT game when I was 6 months old and kept taking me until I went off to college. If I would not have been at The University of Colorado at Boulder, I would have come home for all of the Texas home games. Don't worry, I still had all of my favorite Texas items, foods and even access to LHN via the Texas Exes Denver association when I was unable to watch Colt in the comfort of my apartment. I did however get my dose of Texas and Austin by attending all of the Red River Rivalry weekends at the Cotton Bowl every October. After Graduating, I missed so many of the true friendships I made in Boulder and thought I wanted to move back. Austin had my heart and I stayed to find a lot of really wonderful people and organizations that I reconnected with and found to be difficult to live without. I have had ups and downs here but I can honestly say Austin forever has my heart because of the friendships, business and memories I have associated with it. I want to share all of my favorite Austin finds with all of you to keep the unique Austin vibes alive!
